It's been so long since I blogged that I kinda forgot how! So here goes nothing... I haven't blogged in five years! I hemmed and hawed over how to start again. I thought about a year-by-year recap but felt like that would be cheating. A blog is supposed to be a real window into someone's life and a recap would inevitably gloss over the troughs and emphasize the peaks. So with that in mind, I'm just gonna start fresh and fill you in on details as they come up. 😬 We visited Matt's parents last week and toured UC Berkeley so Lily could see it. Afterward, over some Chipotle, Jason cracked me up by saying "I'll probably go to Berkeley... mostly because it's the only college I know of." Checking out the Redondo Pier before dinner with friends a few weeks ago. Rose wore her Christmas best, just because. Rose did a lemonade stand a few weeks ago and only got 2 customers over about 4 hours. :( We think it's because it wasn't very hot that day so we...

January 2021

Good gods, it's been so long I almost don't know where to start!  Despite 2020 being 2020, we still had a really nice end to the year.  That period from Halloween to Christmas is always my favorite and still felt special even though we didn't get to do some of our traditions like the annual Christmas tree lighting on the Pier. In some ways I'm actually finding 2021 to be rougher than 2020.  We've turned the page on the year but in LA we haven't really turned the page on the pandemic yet.  As of a few days ago we were still hovering above the 15% ICU bed availability so it's hard to feel a sense of progress, even as so many other places seem to be on a path to normalcy.  We're also in the midst of our umpteenth COVID scare of the past year with our umpteenth suite of negative test results to match.  I don't understand how it's possible for our family to get so many colds when we barely leave the house. Despite all that, we've been keeping busy...

2020 Rolls On: May - July

It's been a little minute since I last blogged, at least in my personal non-lawyer capacity.  After over a year of hemming and hawing I FINALLY launched the new zimmer.legal website.   For years I had a simple landing page.  I didn't envision my website as anything more than confirmation that I am a real person and a lawyer.  However, over the past year it really started to gnaw on me that my website didn't reflect my personality or the way I practice law.  I've heard again and again that my clients really appreciate my plain speak and ability to make them feel comfortable with complicated legal issues. And yet, if you looked at my old website you would have no idea that I was any different than any other lawyer. After being somewhat ambivalent about my practice over the past few years, the coronavirus economic uncertainty made me realize how good I've got it.  On the five year anniversary of jumping back into private practice, I've decided t...

New Digs (Kind Of)

Holy smokes, I haven’t blogged since our November vacay to French Polynesia!!!!  I knew it had been a while but didn’t realize how far off the blagon I was! So much has happened in the past 2 months for us all & it feels a bit silly to blog about anything but at the same time, we all probably benefit from a little distraction, right? There have been a ton of tips out there about working from home.  Having given my share  already , I didn’t really read anything that I wasn’t already generally aware of and for the first month of quarantine it was pretty much business as usual for me. All that changed until almost 3 weeks ago when Matt reentered the corporate world.  His desk in the cave wasn’t going to work anymore.  With COVID-19, the kids are all home all day except for a brief walk or two and they need that space to play.  Plus, even if we could get them to stay out of the cave, he would still hear them ...

Bora Bora & Tetiaroa (The Brando)

The view from our Bungalow in BB. I can’t believe I haven’t blogged in 3 ½ months!  I have so much that I wish I had reported in read time – our UCSB Family Vacation Center blast with Maryte & Oskar, our Labor Day weekend in Indianapolis with the Indy crew, Rosie’s 1 st  birthday, my Kondo consultant seminar, our trip to Bora Bora & Tetiaroa, the launch of Styelvate… and of course, my lingering thoughts on that Game of Thrones finale!  Now that I read it all, it makes sense that I’ve been doing those Penny Press puzzles at night as a brain-drain instead of blogging. Me the most relaxed I've ever been! I’ll try to blog about all of the aforementioned things at some point but for now – vacation!    This was the best vacation of my life but I struggled with how to write about it.     It was so perfect that I feel like I could write 10,000 words and still not adequately express what it was like.     In the end, I...

Krazy for Kondo

This photo has almost nothing to do with decluttering (I say almost because it's a Rent the Runway dress, which has really helped me cut down on buying clothes) but I can't help but post it because I actually put some effort into my appearance for once!  Matt and I celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary with steaks at Arthur J and dessert at Sosta Cucina.  So yummy. Rosie kept messing with my perfectly Kondo-ed drawers! The photobombers strike again! For some reason the little ones were underfoot the entire time that I was taking the photos required to qualify for the Kondo training seminar. I ended up including this one in the submission packet because Rosie looks so stinkin' cute!  Also I wanted them to know that I have 3 kids which is why my house looks like an actual home instead of a magazine shoot. I gave a shout-out to Marie before ( here ) and also blogged about minimalism in passing ( here and here ) but I thought I’d give it another go ...
