After 5 and a half months, Lily continues to surprise us. Like this morning, when she woke up chipper and singing at 6:30 AM, only to suddenly fall asleep mid-blabber at 7:30 AM.
She's started doing this hilarious thing when she wakes up now: before she even cries out or makes a peep, she kicks her arms and legs very quickly, like she's trying to swim out of her crib. We've started calling her Flipper, because with her sleep sack on, she looks like a dolphin or a mermaid pumping its fins. Yesterday it took us a little while to pick her up out of the crib because we couldn't stop laughing at how funny she looked... we're really good parents.
Luckily, Lily loves us anyway and is, as her shirt says, happy as a daisy.

But lately for some reason, she goes into a semi-comatose state every time we get in the car. She just stares out the window and ignores my desperate attempts to make her laugh.
Lily was so happy to see her friends and teachers at daycare this morning, she wouldn't even look us in the eyes to say goodbye. Her best friend at daycare is 2 days older than her and named Elizabeth; they smiled at each other this morning when we arrived. It was soooooo cute.
The teachers from all of the infant rooms had all 20 or so babies out in the general play area, with dozens of balls like the ones in the play pits at Chuck-E-Cheeses across the nation. Lily alternated between fascination with the balls and fascination with the other kids crawling & walking around.
At one point, she tried to lunge forward and get a ball and I caught her before she face-planted. We think she's going to develop very quickly now that she's got the older babies to look to for "advice" on how to play, crawl and walk. One of her little friends just started walking this week and Lily was in awe! I'm still a little sad when we drop her off every morning but it's clear that Lily is in heaven when she's there. My sadness is completely for myself and the fact that I don't get to play with her all day because I know she absolutely loves her new social days.
