Lily Vadar's 6th Birthday

Lily's 6th party went swimmingly... except for the part where she took a light saber to the face.  In the offending Jedi's defense, Lily was dressed as Darth Vadar and asked her friends to come fight her for control of the Galaxy.  They accepted the challenge and tears ensued.  But that was a blip on the party's radar and for the most part she was happy as a clam, playing with her friends, eating Doritos and drinking root beer.

We decided that Valley Park must be in some sort of heavenly microclimate because it was mercifully about 15* cooler than everywhere else in L.A.  My fears of melted cupcakes and popped balloons were unrealized.  All in all it was a really nice day and I was so happy to see Lily so happy with all of her friends.

After the party Liz and Kieran came over and we had a ball playing with Kieran.  He loved Lily's shag carpet and showed off his new walking.  At one point he took about 15 steps.  He was so adorable and reminded us so much of Lily at that age.

For some reason Blogger is being crazy and will not let me upload today's photos.  I've posted them on Facebook though so hopefully you can see them there.  :)

I am off to bed now.  Need to get an early start tomorrow when we complete the birthday celebration with a day at Disneyland.

Setting up the spread... that would be my butt in the background.  :)  A free font on the internet + shipping labels + note cards =  themed food labels.  Lil had a blast coming up with the food names with me.  Her favorite was the Ahsoka H20.  At some point on Saturday evening Lily asked if we could make the balloons into a tower or arch.  After looking on YouTube, I decided that yes, we could.  Assembling the arches was actually pretty easy and fun.  Blowing up 50 balloons?  Not so much.

My parents brought the original Omnibot for display!

Lily's dream of having a real droid sort of came true.  He's still in pretty good inflated shape, happily guarding Lil's bedroom.

Lil is obsessed with Star Wars Rebels & Clone Wars right now.  I repurposed the Fantasyland, Tomorrowland and Main Street U.S.A. signs from last year as Ahsoka, Anakin & Battle Droid napkin & plate weights.  I learned my lesson last year when the paper goods went flying before the kids even got there.

Matt & another Dad giving the kids Jedi lessons.

Lil and her oldest friend from her first LA daycare, Bright Horizons in Westwood.  They were a little shy at first but fell back into the swing quickly enough.

Liz's little one showing off his new slide skills.

I love this little guy so much.  He jumped right into my arms when he saw me... it made my heart melt!

Jedi Council meeting.

Getting ready for battle.  Notice the mini Leia in the background... so cute.

Singing Happy Birthday to my mini-me.  I love this photo because (1) Lily looks so happy; and (2) you can see what a beautiful day it was... it was one of those days that we felt so lucky to live in Hermosa.

Showing off her cupcakes... and a random photobomb from my law partner Jim in the background.
