Blogiversary

So I've been so wrapped up in Lils lately that my first blogiversary came and went with no recognition.  But as of July 16th, I've been blonde and bitchin' for one year!  It's crazy to think that when I started blogging, Lils was still an almost watermelon-sized fetus...
 ...and now she's eating watermelon for breakfast!

As we get closer to Lily's first birthday it's hard to even wrap my head around all the changes we've been through this past year.  I look at pictures from this time last year and I feel such an odd mix of happy and sad.  We knew we were on the brink of something big and life-changing with the baby and we knew that we eventually wanted to make it back to CA but we had no idea how quickly it would all happen.  

Yesterday I told Matt that in retrospect I can see that I never really understood the term "bittersweet" before having Lily.  It's incredible to watch her grow and learn new things

(like "How big is Lily?  Soooooo big!", which she picked up at dinner last night) but at the same time, I miss her infancy and our apartment in Chicago and our friends.  With Matt starting work on Monday, we're moving forward after a few months of running in place but I still feel like my legs aren't quite working here in LA yet...  not sure that that extended metaphor really works.  ;)

Anyway, it should be a good weekend- it's cooled down since last weekend and we're ready for some pool action.  Lily is so ready for the pool that when she sees her blue swimmy diaper, she actually tries to put it on herself!  And the other day, she lied down and put her legs up for Matt to put it on her.  Note that when it comes to her normal diapers, we have no such luck and are met with squirming and twisting.

Holy smokes, I haven’t blogged since our November vacay to French Polynesia!!!!  I knew it had been a while but didn’t realize how far off the blagon I was! So much has happened in the past 2 months for us all & it feels a bit silly to blog about anything but at the same time, we all probably benefit from a little distraction, right? There have been a ton of tips out there about working from home.  Having given my share  already , I didn’t really read anything that I wasn’t already generally aware of and for the first month of quarantine it was pretty much business as usual for me. All that changed until almost 3 weeks ago when Matt reentered the corporate world.  His desk in the cave wasn’t going to work anymore.  With COVID-19, the kids are all home all day except for a brief walk or two and they need that space to play.  Plus, even if we could get them to stay out of the cave, he would still hear them ...

Good gods, it's been so long I almost don't know where to start!  Despite 2020 being 2020, we still had a really nice end to the year.  That period from Halloween to Christmas is always my favorite and still felt special even though we didn't get to do some of our traditions like the annual Christmas tree lighting on the Pier. In some ways I'm actually finding 2021 to be rougher than 2020.  We've turned the page on the year but in LA we haven't really turned the page on the pandemic yet.  As of a few days ago we were still hovering above the 15% ICU bed availability so it's hard to feel a sense of progress, even as so many other places seem to be on a path to normalcy.  We're also in the midst of our umpteenth COVID scare of the past year with our umpteenth suite of negative test results to match.  I don't understand how it's possible for our family to get so many colds when we barely leave the house. Gettin' Back in Shape

After losing most of my Jason-weight pretty quickly, I've stalled hard the past few months.  I don't have any excuses but I have a ton of reasons: I really enjoy having wine with dinner most nights. I really enjoy having something sweet after dinner most nights. I really don't enjoy running or any sort of cardio-aerobic activity. I really hate counting calories or keeping a food journal. I seem to always have morning calls, which cause me to miss the exercise class that I like the best.  Every time I got into a rhythm, I would get interrupted with another project that requires morning calls. I can lose weight pretty easily when I actually get my butt in gear so I never feel a sense of urgency about it. I was still nursing and hungry all the time. I could go on & on b ut after weaning Jason about a month ago, I lost that last one.  Since then, I started working out with a trainer every Tuesday afternoon & going to her group class every Friday morning.
